While attending the University of Regina, Mariel had many notable achievements, including receiving the Centennial Merit Plus Scholarship, the University of Regina Academic Gold Scholarship, the University of Regina Academic Silver Scholarship, and the Ambassador of Germany Book Prize. While attending the University of Saskatchewan, she received the James M. Stevenson Scholarship.

While in law school, Mariel was on the board of directors of the non-profit corporation "Legal Follies", acting as head of publicity and press liaison. Legal Follies is an organization that produces an annual variety show, featuring students at the College of Law, and donating the show's profits to a local charity of the board's choosing.

After summering at McCrank Stewart LLP in 2008 and 2009, Mariel has joined us as an articling student, articling to Hal Wellsch. She is currently working in several areas of law, including civil litigation, family law, corporate commercial, estate law and criminal defence as well as prosecutions for the Federal Crown. She hopes to focus her practice to criminal and civil litigation in the future.
